Chail,
It sounds as if a block with the same name as the x-ref (compelev) already
exists in the sheet (Elev). You said that somebody was using Copy-Paste to
insert the elevations. Then, I guess this drawing is working with the old
definition of Compelev. That is why when you try to redefine the path it
tells you that the definition already exists.
Go to the Insert menu and click on "Block.." See if on the list of blocks
there is a block with the same name of the x-ref (Compelev). If there is,
insert it. Then erase it. Then try to purge it, to get rid of the old
definition. If it doesn't get purged, there is still as list one insertion
of that block. Use the Filter command, to find it. Then erase all its
ocurrencies, and purge again. Now, type X-ref and select the offended file.
Then click on "Browse.." , find the file again. Then click on "save path".
Click o.k. This should fix the problem.
