r14 on xp

New Computer (NC) specs:
Xp Pro
1GB of RAM
2.00ghz pentium duel core
Attached to a network.

Okay the company I work at had to get a new computer for one of the draftsmen about 2 weeks ago. The specs are above, the computer guys who brought it buy and "installed" all the stuff, but didn't do R14 or CIMtech. So we installed R14 and after ALLOT of troubleshooting we got CIMtech working just right mid part of last week. The computer worked perfectly, CIMtech, R14 ran like a dream.

Fast forward to today and when ever we open R14 and go file > open, the program closes instantly with no warning, or nothing. Not even an error message. If we try to draw in it, its just fine, doing anything in it other than opening files or saving threw the browesing window works. The weird part is on the recent files list in the file menu we can open the past 4 files without a problem.

Between the time it was working like a dream and started acting up, all we did was install a new office 2007 and reboot it a few times.

So far we have tried to uninstall and reinstal it with no changes in the issues.

Can someone help us? We only use R14 for CIMtech, our main tool is 2002.

Not wanting to state the obvious, but... . No amount of reinstalling R14
will fix it, time to decide which is more important if restoring your OS and
removing Office fixes the problem.

Installing Office 2007 after Autocad R14 has nothing to do with it. I've installed Autocad R14 and Office in both orders (office then R14 and R14 then office) and neither interefered. I've done this on several computers, ranging from Dells, Compaqs, Gateways, in a variety of hardware configurations. I currently have the entire office 07 package on this machine with a huge file open (2+ MB) in Autocad R14 and I have no problems what so ever.

I'd suggest Uninstalling R14, and cleaning the system of it, uninstalling Office, rebooting twice, then installing office then R14. If that doesn't work, then you need to reformat the machine and start over. Something was changed that it won't let both work.

Try unattaching the computer from the network, disconnect all mapped network
drives and then try the R14 Open command again.

Hey
It's happening to me too. Started a couple of days ago. As far as I know I haven't made any changes to my system. Did use Autocad TrueView to change version of a drawing, but that's only thing I can think of.
Have you found a solution?
Please let me know.

Microsoft installed updates for Windows over the weekend: did yours do that?
Otherwise, something changed on your PC, software code does not just break
one day all on their own.
