Install 12C3 in new computer

I've had AutoCAD12C3 running on a 486 machine using DOS 6.22 and an 8514a
video accelerator. I'd now to make it run on a PIII machine booting to the
DOS partition (in a dual boot DOS/W98SE) and an nVidia GeForce2 accelerator.
The nVidia is capable of providing a VESA driver.

To change video drivers I need to get at the config command, but I need to
AutoCAD's edit screen to input the command. (Memory says I could somehow
access config from the DOS command line, but I don't recall how.)

When I key ACAD from the DOS command line in the ACAD directory, the screen
shows

"BASE.dcl": Can't open file
Error loading dialogue control file.

Keying RETURN yields:

Error Number 1207: 8514 not found
This video mode requires an 8514 based graphics accelerator.

If I can't find a simpler way, my recourse is to start from scratch using
the Install command from the 12 (is that the correct number?) ACAD12 floppies.
Then I guess I would have to Install again using the 7 (is that the correct
number?) of ACAD12c2 floppies. And I have then an additional step: Installing
the 12C3 patch (I don't know where that download is; and hope I can again
download it).

Is there a briefer method? Like using the existing 12C3 working version, and
editing and/or replacing certain files.

try the DOS command ADAC -r to access the configuration menu before entering
the graphics screen.

Hi,

this might not however work if you use a batch file (as you must) to start
AutoCAD. There might be a line in the batch-file saying set
acadcfg=c:\acad\cfg or some such. The way to go is to find the batchfile you
use, open it in an editor and look for the line where acad.exe is called.
Check that the line looks something like this:
c:\acad\acad.exe %1
Make sure thet the %1 is there. Then call this batchfile (say its called
goacad.bat) like this:
goacad -r
This will make the configuration changes to the right place.
Hope you copied the batchfiles from the old pc?
