XREF does not display in generated ortho view

Hi,
I have developed a 3D piping model over a 2D XREF of an existing site layout plan. When I generate a top ortho view the 3D entities display OK (as 2D blocks) but the XREF will not show? I've tried inserting the XREF as an overlay and attachment and have also tried binding it but still no luck. Oddly, sometimes when I generate the ortho view the hatched bits of the 2D XREF show up but not the rest of the XREF items?
Hope you can help? Have only just got around the colour dependent plot style problem using the LISP command posted on here...
Thanks in advance.
Ross

and the ortho output...

I spoke with the developer of the ortho feature. He said the initial release
of the product purposely filtered out 2D geometry and suggested trying the
BETA of the next Plant 3D release as these 2D restrictions have been
relaxed. He did mention annotations and text are still filtered and he will
ask about it.

Thanks,

Hi Ross,
Just so I understand what you are trying to attempt.
-You have created a view through Plant 3D Ortho function
-once the ortho view is generated you are attempting to xref in the 2D existing site layout plan

Is this correct?

Mike,
No, it's as Jorge has responded above. The XREF is in the 3D model (essentially providing a reference underlay over which I've developed the piping model) but is being stripped out along with all other 2D entities once the ortho plan view is generated. I think the short term fix is as you describe - having to reinsert the XREF somehow after generating the ortho view butit might mean transferring all the block entities created in the ortho view to normal ACAD.
Thanks

Ross
Why don't you XREF the reference underlay into the Ortho drawing generated by Plant 3D?

It still seems to be the case in the 2012 version (for instance text is filtered out).

Can someone confirm this is the case or am i doing something wrong?

Roy

If you had attach the xRef like "overlay" is don't display, but if you attach like "Attachment type" in this case will be visible. Sin título.png

Hi Yury,

I tried your suggestion but unfortunately it ends up the same...

Thanks for replying ,

Is the 2D xref part of the project, or you just XREF'd a 2D file? See if it works ok by adding it to the project first.

Right click on the Model's folder, and select "copy drawing to project"

Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem yet? Perhaps a work around?

The problem i have always had with attaching the underlay to the ortho drawing is that it always freezes the the xref layers in the view. So what i have to do is a balance on freezing layers i don't want to be shown from my underlays in the model and unfreezing the layers i want to show every time i update a view. I hate to add of the time i spend unfreezing layers when working with ortho view with underlays.

Hi

The solution seems to be:

1. Add the 2D drawing to the project

2. when setting up the Ortho view, you need to select  3D models to include...."3D model selection".  Select the 2D background as one of the 3D models

3. when you update the view. ... it should show

Good luck
