splitting items in material list

i have 2 items placed from a spec.

I want each of the items to have its own line item in the material list.

i thought i could just overwrite the family(size) field with diff descriptions and it would split them, but it doesnt seem to work, it just mashes the two different descriptions together in the list and lists qty of 2.

This is someone elses project, so I cant mess with the settings or methodology.

I just need a workaround to split the items in the material list.

any help appreciated

You might have given the item code for both the items as same in spec editor. Please check.

thanks for the suggestion, but, sorry, you misunderstood, ill try and elaborate...

It IS the same item from the spec.

I have 2 valves (same type, same size)

the BOM wraps them up and shows 1 item ...vavle with qty=2 (as you would normaly expect)

As I said previously, it not my project, I dont agree with nor like the way they want to show it, but its not my call on this one. So I just need a quick workaround to 'split' the items in the material list.

They want one of the valves to be a line item with description XV-55238

they want the other one to be a seperate line item in the material list with description LCV-55238

Cheers

I can understand now:

Do like this.

Go to spec editor, say you want to include 250NB valve of same size and rating.

Add twice the valve from the catalog.

Now you have added the valve in your spec. One is original and other is duplicate of that.

Mention the first one with item code -- say x

mention the second one with item code -- say Y

the software ll ask for priority, mention the priority.

Come to the plant3d space, first add the valve with item code x, and add the valve with item code y.

Let me know if you could succeed with this;, i feel this will be the only option.
