Saving Plant 3D 2013 model back to Plant 3D 2012

Our office is running AutoCAD 2012 and is not planning on upgrading until AutoCAD 2014.

Plant 3D 2013 has some good features and probably more bug fixes. If we did have Plant 3D 2013 we would have to save back to Plant 3D 2012 when we close the model.

Has anybody actual experience of this and was there any loss of information when the model was reopened in Plant 3D 2013.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Plant projects are not backwardly compatible.  If you start in 2013 you cannot go back to 2012 - notwithstanding that the underlying AutoCAD file format has changed too.  You do have the option to migrate forwards, from 2012 to 2013.

Andy

I do realise that 2012 and 2013 are different file formats plus you can't open a Plant 3D 2013 in Plant 3D 2012.

Due to the fact that the rest of the office is 2012 and will not be upgrading to 2013. I was hoping there was somebody in a similar situation using Plant 3D 2013 that was saving the Plant 3D models back to 2012 so that the rest of the office could access them, the models would be edited in Plant 3D 2013.

We have come across problems in Plant 3D 2012 that have wasted a lot of time in figuring out only to realise they are bugs in the package that have been fixed in 2013.

Hi Patrick,

Andy is correct. We normally recommend users to migrate to the current release that is 2013 using the right migration procedure given in the help documentation. Unless you have an important need of using 2012 in your offices, its better to migrate the projects to 2013 for better stability and to avoid any data losses in the later stage.

There is no recommended solution for going backnforth with the releases for a particular project. As we do code changes in the new release and add new functionalities, its always recommended for the user to stay in the current release until the completion of the projects before migrating to the new release or switching back to the old release for any additional project needs.

Hope that answers your query.

Thanks for the response but I was hoping for some specifics, at this stage I can’t find a problem with saving in 2010 format but editing in Plant 3D 2013.

I agree the best thing would be to upgrade everything to 2013 but due to other software not been updated to work on AutoCAD 2013 the office won’t be upgrading yet.
