You are likely going to have to explode the plant objects down to raw 3d solids to get the lines to show/hide correctly. Pipe needs to be exploded once while most fittings will need to be exploded twice.
VIewbase only works with solids. You can probably explode the Plant 3D objects to solids or do as ExporttoAutoCAD and then run viewbase.
