I really don't think you're going to get people to answer a 50 question quzz comparing Cadworx to Plant 3D.

I suggest you contact your reseller or someone in Autodesk sales to help you.

Pete and cummunity,

I have emailed a couple of people at Autodesk and my reseller... but I got a lot of loaded answers from both.

I was hoping the Autodesk community or the support staff from Autodesk would jump at the chance to support their product and tell us it will be better than the other guys.  My company is not in the oil and gas industry but in pharmaceutics and we have a big need for a good p&id package.

I understand it was a lot of questions but I am sure a lot of people are looking for the same answers.

Cheers,

Martin

It's better than the other guys...;)

I've sent you a PM with some details. In general our pharma clients end up treating multiport valves on the P&ID as equipment, and then not generating isometrics for those lines. If that is all you do, that may not work for you.  However, for ours it did, and it works well.

There is a lot of content available from the Plant 3D store apps.exchange.autodesk.com, I think most of the 3d content you are looking for is there.

Isometrics are more flexible.

I am going to keep these replies 100% anonymous so please don't ask... I have 4 relies so far sent to me.

I am sure others are in the same boat as me and need good info on what to use.  This was very helpful to me and my team... I have almost everyone convince to switch to Plant 3D.

My two cents:
24. Yes.
28. Yes, branch connections are a PITA.
41. I don't think this is possible with equip made with the P3D module.
43. ASD is discontinued after 2015.
45. You're going to have a hard time without one for anything but small projects.
47. Yes for p&ids and orthos. No for 3d models.

All good questions!  It's important to know the strengths & limitations of the software.  It is my experience that training, support, & maintenance  are also important considerations.  Also consider future growth, conversion, & interoperability with other software.  Have you searched www.davetyner.com?  There is a lot of info there for several plant software packages as well as direction to some 3rd party software.  Good luck!

We have been using Plant and P&ID for a few years now and I can say it's been good!

Was it work... YES!

Did we have ups and downs... YES!

Are most of my users happy... YES! That's key to me!

Setup is always work and change is never easy but progress is great!

Thanks all!

We have been using CADWorx since 2007 both Plant and P&ID  .  There is a faction of the company that uses Plant 3D.  The Original Post was CADWorx vs Plant 3D     Did you come up with any conclusions ?

We are 100% PLANT 3D now and it was a lot of work I cannot lie there... but it works!

I did hear from CADWorx and it sounds like they made some great changes if I had the opportunity to go back in time and redo this I think I would keep CADWorx. The cost alone is huge and can tell you there are other options out there that work better... no names will be posted 😛

We have been with CADWorx for a long time Hexagon owns Intergraph now and investing in the product heavily. Not sure about Autodesk in this arena. They have stubbed their toe in the past.

I go with plant 3D all the way! with proper set up, Plant 3D will do the Job. Most of us in our Team are Heavy PDS, Smartplant , Autoplant, and CADWorx users before we learn about Plant 3D, and all of us are happy and contended using it. I must say yes there are still some area that needs to be improved and i've seen Autodesk is working on that every year. Have look on what' new in Cadworx 2018, Most of them are already exist in Plant 3D.

Does CadWorx still require you to purchase a seat of AutoCAD to work with it?

CADWorx require AutoCAD or BricsCAD.

And BricsCAD is cheap... really cheap and runs great. I have been playing with it and cannot crash it.

Is there a connection possible from CADWorx to Autodesk Vault?
