Ortho BOM Table style.

When creating the Ortho BOM table, i can't stop the BOM updating the table style to the set blue text in cells.  If i set up table in Ortho template, then the first instance the table style is correct, but subsequently updating the BOM from the point it reverts back to blue text in the cells. It seems to pull the table style for adskiso table style, but i cannot find the origin of this table.

Has anyone been able to set a table style for the Ortho BOM an it holds settings?

You need to make Layer and color settings changes through Project Setup > Ortho DWG Settings. If you do it through the drawing settings the Ortho Settings will override it.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for getting back to me on this issue.

I've setup the table via Project Setup > Ortho DWG Settings to our company pen colors.  But the table still reverts back to the blue text inside the cells once table has been updated.  When table is first created after starting new Ortho drawings (using ortho template..) the table shows as intented, with correct company text color, but subsequent updating of the very SAME table will revert it back to the blue text.  I've tried this on serveral PC's with new installs with all updates for P3d 2014

Yes, but I have gone into the project settings/ortho dwg settings/setup title block... and set up my bom. I created a new bom table style and set it as current style, etc. When finished with setup, I created a new ortho drawing. The bom showed up in the drawing border just as I created it in setup. I then created a new vew in the drawing based on my model. Then I picked the Bill of Materials button and picked the edge of my viewport in order to associate bom to view. The data updated fine. All was well at this point. However, when I hit the Update Bill of Materials button to test (because nobody is ever finished with the model after they initially place views and bill, etc.) the bom reverted back to the "Adskiso" bom table style.

This is extremely irritating, as it requires constant reformatting every time I update the bom. Apparrently, something in the update bom tool macro selects the Adskiso bom style when it does it's update. Is there a way to fix this? What am I missing here.

I'm glad Adesk introduced the ortho bom functionality in 2014, but it's got a ways to go in order to be user friendly. Lot's of precious time spent wrestling with the bom.

Ken, this post didn't answer the question.  Ken have you used the BOM function before?

I have the same question... When I click the Update Bill of Materials button the BOM reverted back to the default table style.

As the ortho BOM is a new feature, I believe that it may be improved in the next versions.

I am using 2016 SP2 and I am having a exact same issue. Seriously it is not fixed yet?

We have this issue as well and have raised it with out supplier who passed it on to Autodesk. Both assured me that editing the OrthoBOMConfigMetric.xml file in the "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2016\PLNT3D\en-US\OrthoProjectTemplates\Metric\Default" folder should allow you to create a custom BOM.

Like others here it works the first time then goes haywire on any updates after that.

We have customised our Iso BOM pretty heavily with added categories etc.

Even using the default OrthoBOMConfigMetric.xml and applying a different BOM Table in the template, the Blue Text style shows up after tryingto update it.

I tried putting the OrthoBOMConfigMetric.xml in project folders etc and still had same issue over and over.

We are using P3D 2016 SP2.

Was hoping it will be fixed in 2017......

The blue is very frustrating. Who at Autodesk, in their infinite wisdom, thought dark blue on a black background was a good colour for text???? (even on a white background it's not the best choice...)

Please let us change it already!

Not fixed in 2017.

I have tried every one of the listed fixes including editing the .xml files.

Always reverts back.

My frustration is the column widths and text orientation.

This fix is way overdue.

To change the text color, font, font size, ect...

You have to go to "Project setup" and go to "Setup Title Block". This will edit the .dwt file for the specific type of Isometric that you are exporting.

Once in the .dwt file, left click in a cell. You will see the whole table at this point. Left click on the left side of the row that you want to change. You may need to move or adjust the Isometric drawing area out of the way because if it is behind the BOM table its difficult to highlight the row.  Once the row of cell is highlighted, right click, go down to Locking > Unlock. You can now go to properties and adjust the color, size, font, ect... It's a little finicky so it may take a couple of tries.

If all your Isometrics (check, final, spool and stress) look identical, just copy the corrected .dwt file over the rest of the other ones in the corresponding folders.

pdavidyancey,

this thread is about the BOM in the orthographic drawings... Not Isometric, the iso table holds the changes. Please read thread completely.

I am using the 2017 Plant 3D and am have the same issue, I have created the template I wanted, and It worked in the drawing I was in just fine, but upon starting a "test" drawing, and bringing in the BOM from the ortho I quickly created, it gives you the default table style, text style, etc. I can pull up my table by using the command "table" or simply clicking the table button on the ribbon, and I can see all the styles i have created for each attribute, but it won't use it for the BOM...it's very frustrating! Any other ideas?

Try looking in App Store for a BOM plugin.

Have you actually tried your suggestion before posting?

Thanks

I am not sure if you were ever able to fix this issue.

I am having the same problem.

What I found out, it seems, is that the Table Style gets created outside of the drawing template.. a script or something, or maybe it pulls from a different file than the current dwt in use for the final Ortho.

I found that by renaming all TB styles under ortho dwt settings.

When I create the Ortho drawing I check that the table styles are not there before creating the BOM Table.

When you hit the BOM table.. it creates the adiskiso table on the fly.

What I also found out is that all support guys from Autodesk that rush in here on any Forum questions don't really test before answering, they just assume their answer is correct for extra bonus points at Autodesk probably because of time and internal pressure,

I will create a new forum for this issue.

Thanks .. all the best.

Evidently I misunderstood the question which was almost 3 years ago. Sorry for the misunderstanding and delays in my response.

Now I understand what is being asked but unsure if you are adding the BOM to the template file or adding the BOM after creating the ortho. I add the BOM table to the template file then configure it there without issue. When I create the ortho the BOM is already there.

Ken,

The issue is you cannot edit the BOM table layout.

Any changes made in the Ortho settings don't stick after the first run of update BOM.

Try changing the order and width of a few columns.

There is something that rebuilds the default column widths,.

Works fine on the first iteration.

Edit the 3d model and then run again and it goes whack.
