I have imported a iges file into my project in AutoCAD Plant 3D, but if I convert it to a piece of equipment or a block then it slows down the drawing REALLY BAD! I would take time and draw each valve I have, which are manual and acuated valves ranging in different sizes from 1" up to 4".
I have not used the spec editor much and really get lost in creating my own valves at this point. I already have these 11 or 12 valves in the drawing but are they are not solid objects and they are not compatiable with my piping.
Can someone help me with the steps I need to take in converting what I have into workable piping componets...Please
Have a look at the youtube channel in regards to editing catalogs and specs. There is also a video that shows how to make custom parts.
I would personally put all these items into your own spec to use for future projects, rather than doing them one at a time when required.
Inventor Fusion can convert to DWG fairly easily, then when the model looks proper and in the correct format, block it and convert it.
I have a bunch of former IGES files - butterfly valves, that I have converted this way and it works fine.

Thank you for the info. Now, I have created the dwg. file from the iges. through Inventor Fusion, which was really nice, but I now need to know how to make this dwg. valve work in spec editor.
Do I make it a block? which if I do, then I can't snap flanges or pipe to it. What do I do to make this valve a useable valve or place it on a template?
you create a block of your valve. Then use the command <plantpartconvert> this will let you add your ports Once you have this done, then it's into the spec editor.
open your spec and catalog
add it to your catalog and spec.
