How does one rotate and orbit inside a point cloud?

I'm finding this to be nearly impossible. Since plant3d, autocad, etc does not produce pivot point in the point cloud, when trying to orbit inside the point cloud, it will jump to the left, right, and so on.

Earlier versions (prior to mandatory rcp and rcs files) modeling pipe in a point cloud was a breeze !!! , but no longer. And point clouds always have sky points (even after filtering), so after importing an rcp or rcs, I get stuck with this gigantic box around my point cloud, which makes navigating even harder 😞  Creating regions doesn't help either.
