File reference

Hello,
why it is possible move with refence dwg in the model? It is major problem.

For example in AutoPlant, which for reference use inteligent WorkArea file RWA. AutoPlant RWA automaticaly insert reference file to lock layer, and user do not move with.

How will be AutoCad Plant solve this major problem?

We provide users a flexible way to deal with the drawings.
There is only option in context menu for Xref'd drawing called 'Bind...', you can try this one. Once this operation is done, the xref'd draiwng will be treated as block in master drawing. And you don't worry about the problem of moving it.

Thaks for answer. But this solution do not solve our problem.
Exist only one solution: add new actual layer, which will be lock, and then insert x-ref - this solution obstruct move x-ref.

AutoPlant has good tools for this - Work Area Setup

Yes, thanks for your suggestion!

Hi there Zalud,

Autodesk Vault does not have any Plant 3D Project specific functionality beyond what it supports for any AutoCAD DWG based file.

If there is specific functionality you would like to see between Plant 3D and Vault we would be glad to hear it.

Thanks,
-damian

actually theres a message alert that an Xref object has been move to unsupported location (0,0,0) if ever you accidentally do it.
and also once you closed and open the drawing with moved xref, theres is a message again in the command prompt that tells

XREF xxxxx.dwg is attached at a non-supported location. Connections can only be made to models attached at 0,0,0.

even when you reload the xrefs, this message appears.
well i hope they can do it into a pop up alert message dialog rather than appearing from the command prompt.

Vault is used for controlling drawing not project. That means you can control the plant 3D drawings with project manager. So in our product, after you install vault, you can set the limitation for the drawings that you won't be edited by others. But by youself, administrator, you still has the full control right.
Please let us know if you want to know any detailed or further usages. Edited by: loriwu on Dec 10, 2009 6:37 AM

This is a good suggestion. Alter message sometimes in the command prompt is not obviously enough to inform.
