Creating new specification

I made a new spec through the spec editor, but it doesn't show up under the part insertion pull down to set the spec for the line.  I saved the new spec where all the other spec.'s are saved, so it's not a location issue.  Other than that I see there has been a lot of problems with 2012 AutoCAD plant 3D spec.s.  Has anyone created a spec and used it?
