BUG when using PLANTPARTCONVERT in Plant 2014

Hi, everyone!

I was trying to convert my custom block based equipment with PLANTPARTCONVERT. But after selecting positions for inlets/outlets and pressing Exit nothing happens. Geometry remains without any changes. Corresponding XML file has zero ports "<portCnt>0</portCnt>". Then, certainly, I couldn't use this geometry in Spec Editor.

I've tried doing this conversion on 64-bit and 32-bit machines with corresponding versions of Plant 3D.

Anybody have an advice?

I'm not sure on where the issue might be, it works on my end on various machines, it sounds like something hasn't installed properly or something, but PLANTPARTCONVERT definitely does work.

I think I found the solution!

I got the same problem with the plantpartconvert.

Than I started a new drawing and I choosed a different DWT to start with.

Than it worked!

I have had the same problem on 2014. I found was that I was trying to PLANTPARTCONVERT the block in a drawing that was not part of my project. Make sure the drawing you are creating the block in is part of the project. Hope this works for you also.

Yes. You are right!

When I created a model in Inventor and saved as *.dwg, it was not included in plant project. But after adding it to my project everything is working.

Thanks!

I had this same problem.  I was using Inventor 2013 to create my parts.  It saves them as a 2013 dwg.  So the only way I was able to convert my components was to open it in Plant 2013 and do the PLANTPARTCONVERT there.  Once I did that then I was able to add the part to my catalog.

This additional work-around solution was recently posted. FYI.

I have been using plant 3d since 2012 and had trained many users and almost all of them encountered problems when doing plantpartconvert, and the good thing is, all of those are user errors. I think to solve this fast is, tell us step by step how you create custom 3d model, converting it to block, then doing plant part convert. I assure you, you will find the solution in just minutes, I my self and other designer / admins will help you out.

ok..

following are the steps i used for creating new custom part: -

1. new geometry created in acad with help of primitives.

2. convert it into Block

3. with the help of "plantpartconvert" assign connect point to block.

4. PNG and XML files are created into folder where this DWG file is stored.

5. tried to use this custom part directly into model with the help of "plantcustomparts"

6. Import block from dwg .. and assign part / port properties. (see attached snap)

7. aftr inserted it gives me an error. (see earlier post attached snap)

I tried to add this component to spec via spec / catalouge generator.

and after that i can able to connect piping to respective component. see snap-2
