Black background

Looking at the product page, it struck me that those dark grey and blue pipes aren't going to show up too well on the black background used by most AutoCAD users. How easy is it to modify the defaults and maintain those changes? Is it just a matter of changing the layer settings in the template(s), or are there blocks and other things to mess with, too?

Steve,

I expect most users are going to want to set it up with color by size or
some other variable. You can change the colors used in project setup.

Forgive my ignorance (I haven't yet seen the product and using the trial isn't allowed outside North America), but could you please explain what is involved with project setup? How much work is involved in making those changes and maintaining them from release to release? Are the settings stored in each drawing, in the Registry, or in user files? Once the setup is done on one user's system, how is it transferred to other users, both internally and externally? If changes are later made to that setup, can that new setup be easily adopted by other users? Once that's done, will it be automatically applied to existing drawings? If not, can it be easily manually applied to existing drawings?

Sorry for all the questions, but this is the sort of thing CAD Managers need to know.

Steve,

There is a project concept in AutoCAD Plant 3D. You create a project and
typically put it on a network for multiple users. There are some setup files
in this project. Projects are upwardly compatible from release to release.
The colors and layers are updated on project drawings as they are opened if
the settings are changed for the project.

Steve,

The trial should be available everywhere. If you're still having a problem
downloading it, please email me directly.

It seems that within the project, there is a layer and colour setting concept called an automation scheme. OOTB there is one called Default, and it is possible to create your own and set it current, like AutoCAD profiles. I assume this scheme thing is stored in the Registry? If so, that brings me back to the question of how these are shared both internally and externally, and maintained from release to release.

Also, I'd like to point out that the Default scheme is equally unsuitable for both black and white/cream backgrounds, containing as it does colours like yellow and dark blue. I suggest future releases come with at least two default schemes that are designed for use on a) dark and b) light backgrounds. If you intend sticking to one Default scheme, you really need to kill both the dark and light colours in that scheme.

Steve,

Only data for the current user is stored in the registry. Data that pertains
to the project as a whole is stored in one of the files in the project
directory.

I believe the layer/color information is in piping.dcf or piping.dcfx.
