It seems that within the project, there is a layer and colour setting concept called an automation scheme. OOTB there is one called Default, and it is possible to create your own and set it current, like AutoCAD profiles. I assume this scheme thing is stored in the Registry? If so, that brings me back to the question of how these are shared both internally and externally, and maintained from release to release.
Also, I'd like to point out that the Default scheme is equally unsuitable for both black and white/cream backgrounds, containing as it does colours like yellow and dark blue. I suggest future releases come with at least two default schemes that are designed for use on a) dark and b) light backgrounds. If you intend sticking to one Default scheme, you really need to kill both the dark and light colours in that scheme.
