Instrument Valve Tag Numbers That show Instument Bubbles too

We are drawing PSV valves on our PIDS. Once inserted, they require us to assign a tag to them. No problem.

We then want to assign an instrument bubble to them as required by our symbolgy. When putting in the same bubble info as the valve tag, we get the message that it cannot be a duplicate. How are we to get around this issue? Modifing the PSV Valve tag symbol to resemble an instrument bubble?

The problem you have is that the software will not let you assign the same tag number such as PSV-1234 to two items in the project.

You seem to be missing a step in the workflow for inserting the PSV as the command to insert the PSV actually asks you to postion the instrument bubble as follows:

Select "Relief Valve" from tool palette- you are then prompted

"specify insertion point"

After you have clicked on the point where you wish to insert the PSV the "Assign Tag" dialog box is displayed

Enter the tag information such as the Area, Type & Loop Number for example 1000-PSV-1234

Click "Assign"

Next you should be prompted to "select annotation position". This basically is the position where you want to locate the instrument bubble.

Go ahead and select the location where you want the bubble and the Bubble and leader should be drawn automatically. Well it does on mine anyway.

If the above procedure is followed you should not then need to add a second instrument bubble. However if you have valves in your P&IDs that have been inserted but the bubbles have not been positioned simply right click on the PSV and select "Annotate"

From the resulting list simply select the "field mounted discrete instrument style" and position the bubble where you want it to be.

Hope that helps

ah, now I  understand. We were getting into the habit of inserting a valve, giving it an assign tag routine. After reading your post and testing it, it worked great.

This is another fine example of why we need that training date on the calendar to hurry up!

Thanks for the how to there Steve.
