Transitions and Fittings

Is there a way to modify the angle of a transition? The default angles seem
to be to small, making the transitions to long. Also take-off fittings are
sometimes to long, and in order to fit ductwork in tight areas I would need
to shorten these fittings. Obviously stretching will not work with MVparts.

Hi Aaron -

There are transitions in ABS 2004 that you can add by specifying the angle.
They have the word "Angle" in their names. Is this what you are looking
for?

Additionally, the ABS 2004 HVAC Content Extension added transitions that can
be specified by length.

That's great. Why they are not available in duct layout preferences?

Slawomir -

They are not available to autolayout since they have multiple solutions to
solve one problem. For example, the autoinsertion routine is not smart
enough to figure out what length you want the 10" to 20" transition to be.
Let's say you turned on the autolayout flag in Content Builder or Catalog
Editor and then set this fitting as your preference for transitions. So,
you are cruising along and change sizes -> multiple fittings found error
message. Okay, no problem, you pick a length. But, now the application
will use that length as the default everytime you need to use that fitting.
We thought that the inconvenience of that would outweigh any benefits of the
autoinsert so we turned the flag off.

Unfortunately, ABS does not yet give you the ability to specify properties
in the default fittings dialogs.

Well, then I suggest that the autolayout shall have selection of the length
and angle when this transition is set as default. What you described it is
really tiresome, but what do we have now? Draw the duct, change dimension of
the duct which causes default transition is inserted, then click on
transition to modify it, select different part, select desired length or
angle, correct broken layout. I'm not sure whether this is much better. On
the other hand using Insert fitting command is not so convenient, either. By
some reason it is not so obvious whether the fitting inserts in right
direction and at right angle to the axis.
