Sections in AutoCAD 2010 MEP

Is there a better way to create sections in MEP 2010 beside using
2D section callout tool tool? It gives you a 2D image which is very
hard to dimension, no osnaps, no layer colors and it has to be regenarated every time
when model changes. AutoPlant 2.01 (1999!) has a great tool called work area
views which is essential in creating the sections. It gives total control
to do it and creates clipped view in paper space, dimensioning is easy, colors
visible,full visibility control, can switch to model space and even edit model if needed.
This is one of the most essential tools to create shop drawings
with a lot of sections and I can't find anything comparable in AutoCAD MEP 2010.
