Plumbing fixtures

We are a consulting engineering firm that works with a variety of
architects. One thing is common between them all: _they_ place the plumbing
fixtures.

#1, It came to my attention that the plumbing fixture symbols are not
available to vanilla ADT, so just *how* is the architect supposed to add
them?

#2, Most architect's frown on us editing their actual plans, so how does
*this* work in Autodesk's grand building model vision?

#3, In our world, we XRef the floor plan into our drawings. Seems to me that
the intelligence of the new plumbing fixtures is lost in this case, even if
issues #1, 2 were addressed.

After a quick check, it appears to me that you're not losing the
"intelligence" of the plumbing fixture by XRef-ing the drawing containing
the plumbing fixture. It still knows what it is, and it still has a
Building Systems snap. I'm not sure what else you want from it.

In the 1-to-1 demo I saw, if the fixture was located in the current drawing,
the pipe was typed correctly for domestic cold on the right, dom. hot on the
left, and waste in the center. But that did not appear to be the case with a
fixture buried in an XRef. The snaps where there, but the water system had
to be forced.

Yeah, I thought there was more to what you were saying. I didn't check to
see if it maintained systems.

Thanks for helping me clarify it for Autodesk! 😉

What sort of level of interoperability would you imagine as far as MvParts
and the architect's placement of such things as: plumbing fixtures,
electrical devices, hvac diffusers, etc?

For example, I would wish that an air diffuser could be anchored to a
ceiling grid object...and across xrefs.

Thoughts?

I would like ADT upgraded to be able to handle MVParts. Then we can place
lights, switches etc at the fitout design stage before the services team get
to work.

EG I know "area x" will need 4 power pts, a data & phone outlet or that a
room will require a extract fan but cant show it in any way that minimises
re-work & possible omission/confusion. When the services team pick up the
ADT model it is a manual function to pick up/track those items. Seems a bit
primitive when we are both modelling with sophisticated software?

I don't need all the system design tools (circuit analysis etc) but just the
ability to make/see/place the parts.Even if this wasn't the full catalogue
but just generic "standard" style parts would be better than nothing. At
least then the engineer can just alter the "Standard" fitting to the
appropriate final spec.

From what I have seen of them MVParts would be a great addition to the MV
block setup already in ADT. Use them for things that are best modelled with
ADT MVBlocks but should only "mate" in defined ways (Seating or modular
shopfittings...)
