More freedom in style customization

The problem I'm running into is that many of my styles require a hatch, and sometimes linework indicating clearance, with properties different than those of the plan viewblock. I've been on the discussion group looking for solutions, but so far the simplest is that all my styles require the use of overrides. The first thing I'd like is to truly create a default value for my styles.

The second thing I'd like is, once I've created my initial set of styles, an easy way of creating demo and new versions, which will automatically register with the layer key so they get placed on the appropriate demo or new layer.
