x-sections

I'we created few and set the border lines to non-visible and section lines
to my color choice. The section itself I've changed to my choice color, too.
All is ok on the working sheet, but when I xref the working sheet to my
final drawing, all lines are back in grey color and the section changed
color to grey, too. Couldn't find reasonable solution. Anybody to help?

I have yet to create a section in ABS 2004 but i did several in ABSv3. I was never able to figure out how to make the section the same colors as what it was cutting. Can you enlighten me?

Thanks in Advance.

by default x-section comes on A-sect layer. Chenge color to whatever you
want and regen. Sometimes you must do _AecObjRelUpdate.

SP,
I can understand changing the layer color would change the entire section. But what i was tryign to do is change the individual pieces inside the section to match up with the color and line weights of the items that are getting cut.

I know what are you talking about, but my limited knowledge stops just
before that.
Sorry

I would hazard a guess that your problem stems from the VISRETAIN system variable. If you are saying that you had the working drawing xrefed into your final drawing THEN changed your layer colours in the working drawing this would not update your final drawing if VISRETAIN was set to 1 as VISRETAIN controls the visibility, colour, linetype and lineweight of xref dependant layers. As for the problem of the colour of the section in relation to the items you are sectioning, I would say this is the main failing of the sectioning tool, as it creates the section - by default - pretty much on 2 layers, the front objects that the eye sees first and the hidden lines that are obstructed. The sectioning tool treats all objects the same so you loose the layer varieties, the only way to change the properties of the section lines is to change the layer properties of the section layer. You cant change separate lines unless you explode the section down to its core entities. I think...

I'm starting to believe just what you have said here. there is no way to for the colors to remain like what you are cutting. Thanks for the help.

Is this really the case?  Does anyone from
Autodesk have any input on this subject?  Since I have not had time yet to
learn all  of the functionality of the of section I have had to explode
them and change the layers and line types to the appropriate ones.  If
it is not possible for the program to do this for you once set up properly then
it is a MUST for the wish list.  Handling the sections the way that I am
currently is very time consuming to explode and erase unnecessary line and
change the layers of the ones that I want to keep.

In my layer key, I have 2 keys, one for SECT, the other for SECTHIDE, specifying that these objects go onto the A-Section-G layer, I assume that if you wish to have multiple layers inside your section reflecting the plan you need to add layer keys for these items and update the section style?!? Anyway, after you have made your section you can modify the entities inside the section without exploding it using the following method, not as good as we would all want but I guess in ABS2005 we may get something better...

Use this procedure to edit individual lines in a 2D section by assigning them to display components in the section.

You can assign selected linework to fixed display components that determine the display of every section that you generate, or you can assign linework to display components that you have defined. For information about adding custom display components, see Adding a Display Component to a 2D Section Style . After you assign linework to display components, you can change the display properties (visibility, color, layer, lineweight, linetype, and linetype scale) to change the display of lines.

Select the section to be changed, right-click, and click Linework Edit.
Select the lines that you want to assign to a display component, right-click, and click Modify Component.
A list of available display components is displayed.

Select the component on which to put the lines.
For example, to make the lines invisible, select Erased Vectors for Linework Component.

You can also click (Match existing linework) and select linework in the section whose display component you want to match.

Click OK.
To finish the linework editing process, select any line in the section, right-click, and click Edit in Place Save Changes to save the changes you made, or click Edit in Place Discard Changes to undo your linework changes.

I wonder what Autodesk sells in UK.
In my copy I do have both SECT and SECTHIDE keys and both define same layer
A-sect.

When highlighting and right-clicking the x-section, I do not have any
"linework" item in the pop menu.

Still I would appreciate if anybody from Autodesk would bother to reply to
my original post about x-referencing sheets with x-sections into final
drawing and about color change.
