Viewport to specific layer

Is there a way of making my viewports to be placed on a specific layer all the time. Today, I have to create a new non-plot layer in every DWG and move my viewports to this layer.

A workaround could be creating a viewportlayer once in a template but I am not sure of how to do that either...

Greatful for all tips...

You could put a macro like this on a button. My example uses layer name "non-plot"

^c^c-layer;new;non-plot;set;non-plot;plot;n;;;mview;\\layerp;

creates the layer non-plot - makes it current - sets it to not plot - starts mview command - waits for 2 pick points - sets layer to previous

Are you using the Project Navigator? If so then you can set the layer key for VIEWPORT to the correct layer.

Regarding the template issue, if you have a particular template that you use for new drawings go into this template and create the new layer with the appropriate properties then save the template, any new drawing based on this template will include the layer.
