Validation error in Catalog Editor

Hello, I'm trying to customize a Pipe trough the Catalog Editor but sometimes, the Test Catalog function advises me that there is an error.

For example, I copy an Elbow in a new Folder, then I edit its parameters, rename the part and the name. Then I Regenerate the catalog, and then Test the Catalog. It always shows this error.

The error wants me to change the Part ID in the new part. If I change the part ID and I test, it shows again the error.

Any idea?? Thanks!

I have found the catalog editor to be quite buggy in its implimentation.  Basically what i think is happening that when the part is copied its GUID (part id) is also being copied.  This is incorrect.  A new GUID should be created for the part as all parts in the catalog should have a unique GUID.  If and when that happens it is easy enough to go to the physical location of the files on your hard drive and open up the xml file.  Down towards the bottom in the ColumnConst section you will find the Part ID.  Replace the Part ID with a new GUID.  I use http://www.guidgenerator.com/ to generate GUIDs.

I know that the catalog editor should do all of this automatically but when it does not then there is nothing you can do but manually edit the part.  I have a problem that when I copy parts the copied part size name formula is always incorrect and I need to go in and manually edit it.

Hi,

I have the same problem in previous versions of MEP
Check whether there is access to the file AecbGuidList.xml

You can clear this list if necessary, e.g. using Notepad++

I'm pretty sure Keith is right on this one. I've found doing something as simple as deleting 3 numbers/letters in the GUID in the XML, replacing them with my initials.
My other CAD is a Cadillac and I like to Revit to the Max!

Hello Vitaly,

i've the same problem, and it's a pity that you don't have develloped your answer,

because i think it's a good way to have fast results ..

what i've done:

in options, brought my own catalog in the top of list to be prioritary,

cleared

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\MEP 2016\fra\Shared\AecbGuidList.xml

runned catalog test for all parts,

now my custom parts work fine, maybe other standard mep content will be desactivated, but no matter for me,

think it's fastest than creating GUID with guidgenerator ...

Hi,

My answer was - clean "Aecb Guid List.xml",

after regeneration guid should upgrade automatically.

Then your part will work fine from any position in the list catalog!

Regards,

Vitaly

hi,

Ok, that's what i've done,

and i was wondering the problem will remain with catalog in and of list,

i'm happy to know that it will not ...
