Unwanted layers

why is it when i start a blank drawing and the only thing there is a model tab and blank layout tab i have a list of layers i cant purge... theres nothing there yet i have these layers tied up??

same for dim styles and such... seems like theres a ton of useless garbage added to drawings

I agree, so I'm in the process of creating a template that has been stripped of everything (included 'system' styles and such). Then, in options, under Files and Template Settings, I've pointed the Default Template File Name for QNEW to this new template.

Those layers, text, dimensions etc are all used in the display
configurations, system definitions, etc and are required for ADT or building
systems objects to work and display correctly. If you're just looking for a
plain template for regular AutoCAD use, then you should use the acad.dwt
template instead.

This could be real annoying since we have our own company templates set up with dim styles, blocks and layouts.
I would have thought they could just have LISPs to make the layers when needed imbedded in the command.
Are trying to say that if anyone wanted MEP to work correctly, you now have to use their new template provided with the program?
If so that sux.

how do i make acad.dwt my default template?

I would *not* advise that under the MEP profiles. The MEP as AutoCAD 2008
shortcut already does this anyway.

i guess i need help setting things up... all i ever do is just draw ductwork and maybe a few other things... half of the layers that are auto-created never even get applied as far as i can tell to anything ive drawn

that and for some reason when i installed MEO 2008 i now have NO systems setup for HVAC.. before i had high, medium, low pressures for supply, return, exhaust, fresh air... now i just have "Standard"

autodesk is really on my nerves now 😞

You should be able to open your old template in Style Manager, and copy over
your definitions into the new 2008-based template.

i never created them in the first place, they came with 2007...

dont tell me this is another one of those things where the software isnt smart enough to transfer things like that over

They are all there for me. Are you sure you are using the OOTB template?
"Aecb Model (US Imperial Ctb).dwt", although the OOTB should be the STB
template IMHO, given ADT's love of STB templates.
