Smart objects not refreshing

I have a user on AutoCAD MEP 2013 that is drawing duct work. After the duct work is in the dwg he then tries to alter the size. after he does this the duct will only appear as one line but will still after the smart capabilities. and idea on what is causing this?

The user has a 4GB video card and 32GB ram and a Win 7 pro work station.

This whole thing was because the drafter's cutline was hiding the smart objects.

Glad you got it figured out but just so you know you can configure the display properties so that ductwork displays exactly the same above and below the cut line.
