When you install AutoCAD MEP, by default it places 3 icons on your desktop.  US Imperial, US Metric and Global Metric.  The US Metric has pipes, duct, equipment made to Imperial dimensions, but shown in metric units.  For example, you may buy a Carrier rooftop unit.  It is made here in America and to dimensions in inches and feet.  The length of the part stays the same in AutoCAD MEP, but the dimensions are shown in metric.  That's what US Metric does.  So use that profile, the names will still be in metric, so you may need to mentally convert it to Imperial.

Hope this helps.  Merry Christmas.

Not worked, US metric has the pipes in mm. It worked when I changed the units to the US imperial but not very good, it removed some diameters from the list. I mean, with the same material and system, etc, in inches it allowed me to put 3" diameter tube, but now it only allows me to use 2 1/2" and 4", not 3". Any ideas? I have seen that changing the catalog path may be a solution. Do I need to make anything special to change the catalogs that is using?

Thanks again!

thanks in advance

Hello!

How about check the "UNITS" (down right the window, Click "Customization" => Highlight "UNITS")
make sure it's not "Decimal (mm)"

UNITS

This is madness!

In AutoCAD a unit is a unit. You get to decide what 1 unit means as far as displaying it. Could be millimetres, inches, miles, microns, etc. etc.

So you have a pipe with a diameter of 50 units. That's what Acad knows. You can display it in the Properties Palette, or dimension it or tag it (dimstyles can have any units).  You can name it as a 2" pipe or a 50MM pipe but Acad will record it in only one way.

The Properties Palette will only display one unit system, so pick one and stick with it. You can display whatever units you like but first you have to make a call on whether your pipe is drawn at 2units or 50units in diameter.

How did  you guys ever get to the moon?

Not to add anymore confusion but in the past when I have had american clients need to display mm's but wanted to draw with their imperial catalogs then property sets are the way to go.  You can draw everything in Imperial Units and then use a property set that displays the units in MM or whatever you desire.  This magic happens because as was mentioned previously, Autocad stores the dimensional information as a unit.  It will then convert the value whenever needed to whatever you need.
