Pipe connection problem with 800 ton centrifugal chiller

Here's the problem I'm running into (hopefully there's a simple fix for this): I've inserted an 800 Nominal Ton Centrifugal Chiller with connection types of Socket Welded, Socket Welded, Flange and Socket Welded (for connectors 1-4), all of which have been set to 12 diameter. When I try to add a pipe to the chiller, I can only connect to D2. When I try to connect to D1, D3 & D4, I get the following error messages: 'The current catalog contains no parts which could be automatically inserted' followed by 'Unable to create the desired part in the size needed'.
Is there a simple fix for this, or is there something else going on??

Thanks in advance,
Matt

This is what I've found:

The pipe catalog is lacking socket welded pipes
above 4" dia.

Instead, inserting pipe, turn to undefined gauge
and undefined material. This way you will be able to insert at desired
connection a short piece of placeholder. Then right click on a placeholder,
select pipe modify and set gauge, material and diameter to what you want (and
what is in the catalog !!)
. Repeat for each pipe.
From now on, you can draw yoyr system untill you hit another
glitch.

I've forgot.

By some reason, D2 is set to flanged 12", the
others to socket welded 12"(that's why it won't connect, no socket welded pipe
in the catalog larger than 4").

Another way is to edit this piece and change
connection type to butt welded if you don't want flange. At any rate this size
pipe will anyways be butt welded rather.

Hi Matt -

This is one of those unfortunate scenarios where the application is
completely correct. You're trying to connect to a 12" connector that is
listed as being socket welded. When the application checks the catalog, it
can't find any pipe that is listed as having a socket welded connection and
a diameter of 12".

In this case it would be nice if the user could say, I don't care, just make
the connection happen, but currently that's not possible 😞

I've attached a new xml file for the centrifugal chiller. You'll need to
erase the centrifugal chiller from your current drawing then run a
bldsyspurge. Now backup your existing Centrifugal Chillers.xml file (by
default this is in c:\Program Files\Autodesk Building Systems 3\Aecb
Catalogs 3\MvParts US Imperial\Mechanical\Refrigeration Equipment) and
replace it with the attached file. Back in ABS run a catalog regen. Now
re-insert the chiller.

I've changed all of the connection types for this part to "Undefined" so
that you can connect any kind of part you want to the connectors.

Matt -

Are you using the web client or a news reader (guessing web client)?

If you are on the web-side of the ng, _open_ Jason's message, instead of
just previewing it.

Probably. Look under your chair... 😉

Hang on, I'll go to the stupid web-side, and see if I can see it...

Oh yeah baby, use a *real* ng reader! The web-side client refuses to expose
the attachment. Use Outlook Express to get to the post and its attachment.
