I am having an issue with MVPart Display. Specifically the Process (pump, centrifuge, valve) parametric parts are not displaying correctly whether they are Autodesk or my own. It is displaying the part as if it were a 3d solid. I am not sure how this display is controlled or where the view comes from that is displayed in plan for each parametric MVPart. I installed a fresh version of MEP 2012 and had the same issue. The same MVParts work fine in MEP 2010. I attached a tiff of the display of the MVParts in Autocad MEP 2011. Any assistance is appreciated.

You are currently set to the "MEP Basic 2-Line" display. It is a performance display that strips out all hidden line calculations, rise-drop symbol calculations, gaps, CFM and other calculations. All MEP objects will look like wireframe.
I cannot see what visual style you are using, but if you change the visual style to anything other than 2D Wireframe, our MEP Displays get overridden by the visual style. If you are seeing a masking like effect, like a "solid" would do, then maybe your visual style is set to "Hidden, Legacy Hidden or 3D Hidden."
I was using 2d wireframe and changed the display to MEP Design, i still see the same thing in plan view, no matter which visual style I use. I created a new drawing using the "Aecb Model (US Imperial Ctb).dwt" template dropped in a 18 x 14 Multistage Centrifugal blower from the catalog and got the same thing. I see all the lines from the bottom of the blower that should be hidden like a block based part works.
I spoke with Gregg, who explained the issue in more detail. I recognize the issue you are running into. You are referring to how MvParts no longer clean up with their own bottom side geometry.
Quick demo, for those reading:
Add a Horizontal Split Case Pump from the MVPARTADD dialog > Mechanical > Pumps catalog.
In plan view, we only see the 2D Block symbol.
Type in HIDE, to cleanup the geometry lines coming from the bottom half of the part. OBSERVE: Nothing changes. It is as if we are looking at a wireframe of the MvPart, and we are.
Switch to a SW Iso view to see the 3D body. Select the part, and explode it. It explodes to a block of a solid. Switch back to Plan view. Now run the HIDE command. OBSERVE: The solid cleans up the geometry. This is how the MvPart should look when inserted as an MvPart.
We have now brought this to the developers attention and it is in their hands I will advocate to get this fixed sooner.
