MEP long layer names

we have a contactor that uses MEP

when they turnover dwgs the layer names look like

P2H100S$0$H-DUCT-SUP

we only want H-DUCT-SUP

is there a way to clean this up or setup MEP so when they generate 2d plans from their model. the correct layer names are shown?

You can use the RENAME command. FYI this layer exists in that form because your contractor binds xrefs, most likely using etransmit. So more than layers will have the funky names with $ all over them (dimstyles, textstyles, blocks, etc.).  I would request that they send their files in a cleaner manner. They can choose insert instead of bind, or simply do neither.
