I recently upgraded from AutoCAD MEP 2012 to AutoCAD MEP 2014, same computer, clean install. When adding conduit, there is a delay of about four to five seconds from when the first pick point is placed to the appearance of the compass. The drawing is fairly complex with a mix of both 3D and 2D objects. I can replicate the problem with a clean drawing started from the 2014 MEP supplied template, the more conduit, the longer the delay (1000+ conduits/fittings). The interesting part is the delay is present only when using a visual style other than 2D wireframe. I have replicated this problem on two different computers with two different hardware configurations. I’ve tried turning hardware acceleration off/on, manual tuning the 3D configuration, all usual performance tuning, nothing made a difference. This delay was not present on any computer while running AutoCAD MEP 2012, even with more complex drawings.

Setting DISPSILH to 0 reduces the wait time from six seconds to three seconds. SETENABLEPROGRESSIVEUPDATE had no effect, it was already set to 0. AutoCAD MEP 2012 has ZERO wait time!
Thank you for the suggestions, all hope is now resting with 2016.

In another thread with a similar problem for ductwork it was suggested to copy your items to a new drawing. It could be that if you are using a drawing that was originally created in 2012 that their might be a problem with how it updated. Copying your items to the new drawing will possibly 'fix' this issue. This is because it will populate your parts in the new drawing with parts from the new catalog where as in your old drawing it will continue to use the old styles in the drawing and only using a new style when your place a part that has not been placed before.
Worth a try at least.
The slow conduit placement issue has finally been resolved in AutoCAD MEP 2016!

Yes it has!
I was so sure I posted results after I downloaded but I must have missed to do so. Thanks jvernice!
Now, since it's the same file format, Autodesk to roll out a patch, so my coworkers on 2013,2014 and 2015 can reap the same benefits! Sounds easier than it probably is though....
