GIZMO Off

Is there any way to permanently and globally turn off the Gizmo? I'm constantly setting DEFAULTGIZMO to 3 in my drawings, but it resets to 1 after reopening the drawing.

I'm using MEP 2013. Any help is appreciated!

Just add the following line to your acaddoc.lsp file:

(setvar "DEFAULTGIZMO" 3)

If you haven’t already created an acaddoc.lsp file, use notepad to save one in C:\Users\<loginname>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\MEP 2012\enu\Support.

Thank you!!!!  That worked for me too!

I've been trying to turn the blasted Gizmo off since Monday!! The Gizmo wasn't appearing in the past. Suddenly, and I have no idea why, but when I returned from vacation, it was defaulted to 0 instead of 3, and I couldn't find any way to change it back!!

Thank you! I tried every choice in the UCSICON command, AUTODESK PLEASE PUT THIS CHOICE IN THIS COMMAND! Unless you know that it is called a GIZMO, how can we know what to type to turn it off? I kept turning ucsicon off only to have the "gizmo" come right back. I wasted so much time messing with that, it seems so logical to add that to the UCSICON command since it's almost the same thing. Sorry to be so annoyed but it's horrible GUI that wastes so much time to deal with.

It has been some time since this post, I would like to turn Gizmo off in Civil 3D 2019, but searching the C drive came up with no acaddoc.lsp... Any help?

Has anyone figured this out for 2020 yet?

I had it popping up in the middle of each item every time I selected it.

With the command DEFAULTGIZMO (3) it will go to the bottom left corner of your screen, which is much better.

I hope this helps 🙂

I found it...

Bottom right corner of the screen, there's a button.

2020 and we're still using LISP routines to fix Autodesk's sloppy defaults?  How many people work on AutoCAD?

The mere fact that this thread has over 28,000 views proves your point!

They don't seem to listen to any of us on any forum, I've been submitting bugs and annoyances for over 25 years and I don't think a single thing has been fixed.

Can you break this down for someone not quite as advanced? Is there more to it than what you describe?

Were you successful in implementing the solution or do you need help?
