Display order of schematic lines not updated in layout space viewport

I've got some schematic lines and I've modified the display order for some of them (I.E. those that were in the back are now in the front and vice versa). However, when I switch to my layout tab, the viewport does not show the updated display order. When I create my plot files, the viewport is not updated. Is there a variable that controls this? If so, what is it??
