Block Annotation

I am in the process of creating additional symbology (electrical devices)
and I have ran into a problem. I am using Building Systems 3. I have made a
rectangle named it "whatever_P" for the plan view and a "whatever_M" for
model and a annotation "whatever_A". My problem is that it does not see the
"whatever_A" as an annotation. It treats is just another line. I want the
text to stay horizontal while the device is rotated. I know when I make a
style there is a setting "a check box" in ABS 2004 to do this but I am not
able to upgrade all my systems to 2004 yet. How do I accomplish this in ABS
3? I have erases and purged the block and style and have redone it with the
same end result. Some times it works but sometimes it doesn't and I just
cant seem to get this one to ever work. I have had this same problem when I
have tried to do multiple annotations, but that was in a different file.

Help?

Hi Michael

As you point out this option does not exist in ABS 3, so unfortunatly, since
you are unable to set this behaviour on the annot block, this functionality
isn't supported for custommade Devices in ABS 3.

However, there is a workaround... If you use an old device style (with this
behaviour) and just change the annotation block it should work.
For example:
1. Insert desired text with justification MC (Middle Center)
2. Block the text with desired offset. blocknameWhatever
3. Insert the amplifier Device
(4. Invoke: devicestyle, Copy the Amplifier Sttle and rename it "MyDevice")
Optional
5. Edit MyDevice, Views Tab, Choose Text A (line 3) and change Block to be
shown in View Block to the previously defined blocknameWhatever
6. Insert MyDevice

This should work.

(Make Sure you use the MC justification on your annot block and use the text
command)
For devices with two horiz annot. look at For ex. Fire Safety Heat
Detectors.
Hope this helps

Thanks for your reply. That is what I have been doing, I was hopping I was
missing something, but I guess not. I wonder though how they (AutoDesk)
originally got those to work, (when they first make the devices and styles)
especially the ones with the two text tags: _A1 & _A2.
