AutoCAD MEP - Layer Colors

I have created a new drawing template file will my custom piping system definitions and associated layer names.  I then made sure that the same layer names were entered in the layer manager with the associated colors I want to represent each system.  When I begin drawings however, all piping is put on the standard layer.  What am I doing wrong?

I am wondering if you are aware of the difference between a layer key and the layer itself. The layer key is a lookup in a table that assigns layer information. In other words the layer key in the style manager system definition is not the same thing as the layer.

I will post more info in the morning but I believe that this is your issue. Because your layer key is not in the layer key table it assigns the standard information.
