Transfer Mechanical BOM to Vault Professional with customized quantity

Version: Mechanical 2013, Vault Professional 2013

The predefined BOM column QTY in mechanical is numeric, without decimal places. 

The quantity in Vault can have decimal places, to represent quantity values like length etc.

Is there a way to transfer boms like this from mechanical ?

I could not find a way to change QTY in Mechanical to hold numeric values with 1 or 2 decimal places.

Usually one would add a column (e.g. MY_QTY) and use this column.

But: There is no way to change the column vault uses to create the bom from CAD data.

Is there a way to solve this ?

Configuration would be preferred, but a solution via programming would be OK also.
