Text appearance when exporting to PDF

I am using a Sheet Set to export a set of layouts to PDF. This works great, except for two issues: Autocad assigns colors to various annotation objects in the layout. When exported to PDF these show up as grayscaled in some way to be very dim and hard to read if the color is yellow for example. If I set up my own plot style table and set the color to Black for every color I then have the issue that any object with a color other than black shows up as a thin outline with a hollow fill. See the attached PDF. 

What is the page setup magic that needs to happen to simply have everything be black and white when exported to PDF?
