Not able to dimension arc circle in AMDWGVIEW?

When I try to dimensionon any view/ ortho / iso / section / etc. I'm unable to dimension Circle or arcs. this seems to be a very common practice yet I do not see any posting for it am I doing something completely wrong?

I get a message the item selected is not an arc? but if i do a liner dim I can snap to the center of the circle?
