Need a way to convert Mechanical Desktop drawings to AutoCAD Mechanical. Error reads : "You cannot edit Mechanical Desktop drawings in AutoCAD Mechanical. All AutoCAD Mechanical commands, including save, are now disabled." I do not have the regular AutoCAD if that is the only way.

Hi
AutoCAD is part of AutoCAD Mechanical.
Launch AutoCAD from Windows Start>>programs>>Autodesk>>AutoCAD Mechanical XXX>>AutoCAD XXX
1) Open the drawing in Vanilla AutoCAD by accepting the proxy message.
2) Then Using Wblock command, convert the entire drawing as a new DWG file (OR Copyclip and pasteclip into a new drawing)
3) Now open this new Drawing file in Vanilla AutoCAD/AutoCAD Mechanical.
4) It will open without any message
Thanks,
This is a Paper/Model space drawing with the model being 3D.
How do you get the Proxy Entity to copy/w-block out?
Hi,
You see a Proxy Entity dialog when you open the drawing. Select the option as shown below. If you don't see the dialog; and the drawing just opens, use command wblock to create a block of the 3D model.
If you want to export layout/Paper Space; use exportlayout command to save the paper space views as a new drawing.
Thanks,
I got a fatal error as well.
So I reopened the original Mechanical Drawing again
Then I did a edit- select all
then typed "wblock" command and a dialog box came up hit OK
then Exportlayout command and it worked.
Hi,
Is this the same workflow for Mechanical 2018?
My MDT file is just a 2D drawing which I need to have in ACADM paperspace, but there are also parts lists & balloons which don't seem to come across using the WBLOCK command.
Please advise the workflow (if different) to achieve this.
On a sidenote, can you advise the most recent version of ACADM still compatible with MDT, and whether using this version as a 'bridge' between MDT and ACADM2018 is a viable solution?
Thanks.
