Layer CHPROP Problem Caused By Component Generation

I couldn't find the original post on this topic but we think we have finally determined what is causing our problems when trying to change an item from one layer to another.

I've attached a simple drawing from AutoCAD Mechanical 2012.

There's a block on it with a circle in it and beside that 2 rectangles.  All items are on Layer AM_1.

Follow this procedure and see if you have the same problems we do.

Select the "Model" tab to ensure you are in model space.

Select either of the rectangles on the right and from the drop down select a different layer to put it on.  Any other layer will do.  The rectangle should then change it's properties to that layer as we are set up that color and line type are by layer.

Now, select the box and circle on the left and make them a component by whatever means you want.  Once you have the component created go back to the other rectangle on the right and select it.  Then go to the layer drop down and select a different layer to put it on.  Does it change or does the layer manager just pop up and not allow you to do anything?

We've seen a lot of people reporting this problem and have not seen any solutions yet.  At least we have determined what is causing it.  We are able to reproduce this problem on every workstation running ACM 2012.  We did not have this problem on 2010.

Mark Kenyon

There appears to be a conflict with the Sketchbook Designer Plug In and this functionality when the Component Generator is involved.  The workaround is to uninstall / disable the Sketchbook Designer plugin for AutoCAD Mechanical.  You can uninstall the Sketchbook Designer program via the Control Panel, or you can disable the plugin so it does not load next time you open the program.  This can be done by the following:

- Navigate to the following file path: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins

- Right click the SBD.bundle and rename this to SBD.bundle.old

- Open AutoCAD Mechanical 2012 and retest the functionality.

If these suggestions resolve your inquiry, please check "Accept as Solution".

Both work arounds worked.  We chose to just uninstall the software as we weren't currently using it anyway.
