Importing someone elses file

I have zero experience with AutoCAD 3d, and not even sure which forum I should be posting this in, but thought I'd start here.

Our customer has sent me the file I have attached for me to program on your tube laser.

When I import this into the programming software, or into Inventor, it comes in as a series of flats, and my programming software won't recognize it as a round tube. Neither does Inventor.

Is there a way I can change a setting so this will come out as a round tube?

I was told the customer uses Tekla, so if anyone can give me some hints on something I could tell them, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks so much for your help.

This is what I've come up with. Does this help?

No, that's the same thing I came up with.

It's just a series of flat surfaces in the shape of a round.

Doesn't look like there is any chance of using their files to program to.

Thanks for your help.

I see, I misunderstood. Yeah, you can clearly see from their own drawing that is how they have it drawn. It can easily be re modeled but we don't want to do their job for them do we? 🙂

You need to open the DWG in AutoCAD Mechanical and use the command IGESOUT.

Now run Inventor and select open, set the file type to IGES and point to the IGES file and select options.

This should import the file into Inventor with the correct format; Solid.

See the video link below:

View Import_IGES now.
