How to create a new layer with everything copied from another drawing?

I have accidentally deleted some objects in an important layer sometime back, and I just realised it. I have a back up file, and I want to import just this one layer into my current file. Is this possible? The import option in Layer Manager says: "Importing Settings from another file changes the layer and object settings.". Not sure what this means.

 

This is work related, and hence, I am unable to post the AutoCAD file. Would appreciate any help.

I am using AutoCAD Mechanical 2012.
