Dimensional Text not Displaying

I am having issues with dimension text not displaying when opening drawings created on older versions of AutoCAD.

I am currently using AutoCAD Mechanical 2013, drawings produced from around 2006 onwards display fine but older drawings are not displaying correctly. I am also the only user at my workplace experiencing this issue so the problem seems to be isolated to my ACAD installation.

Any ideas on how to fix this issue??? See attached screen dump for an example.

Are you using an annotative text style with the dimensions? They won't show up in older versions which can't read annotative objects. For a test change the text style to one which is not annotative.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the feedback however this is not the problem as I am not using an annotative text style.
The problem also appears to affect non-dimensional text as well (e.g. in title blocks, notes etc).

Regards,

Scott

Check the layers of the text to see if they are frozen, off, or off in viewport. They also could be on a layer they shouldn't be on like Defpoints or 0.

No this isn't the issue either, it is very strange I have been using AutoCAD for 10+ years and have never came across this issue until recently.

Scott

I'm at a loss Scott. I wonder...if you go into OPTIONS and go to the the last tab and right click on AM Preferences and look at the dimension settings there instead of the dimstyle manager there might be something amiss. I'm just hunt and pecking at this point. This is a very peculiar problem.

Would it be possible to provide the file so it can be further investigated?

Hi Steve,

I have attached one of the problematic files.
However as I mentioned the file opens fine on other users PC's so the problem seems to be with my CAD settings and not the file itself.

Regards,

Scott

Since the issue appears to be isolated to your workstation, one thing you can try is to restore the program back to its default settings.  This can be done by the following:

  • Click Start
  • Click All Programs
  • Click Autodesk
  • Click AutoCAD Mechanical 2013
  • Click Reset to Default Settings
  • Click "Backup and Reset".  This will allow you to export your current customized settings for later use.

The program will restart upon completion.
