COM access to parametric dimensions

I found a good example on how to access parametric data using the .NET api, but I need to access it from a stand-alone application.  I assume that means I need to access the parametric data using the COM interface.

First of all, can you access the parametric data using COM?  Are there programming examples available?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
