Change searchpath for border

By default AutoCAD looks for borders and the like in "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Acadm 2006\Acadm\Gen\DWG" (or wherever you have installed Autocad. That is all fine and dandy, until you have a lot of users and the boss has decided that he really wants to revamp the border style. That is why we usually have the customization files on a shared network drive, and that works pretty okay, only, in this case I seem to be unable to convince AutoCAD to go look there. Is there a setting to change the paths or is it hardcoded and is the only way to deploy a new style to all users installing by hand?

Hi,

Sam is right about the indication of the path in which ACM will search for
border drawings.
However, the path is not editable.

For your information, the path is formulated based on the following:
//gen/Dwg/Format

Hi Blikkie

try this 1 copy DWG folder to server
2 delete or rename the dwg folder on the client.
3 make a new template where you can specify
additional borders etc
options-AM standard-drawing sheet

Thank you very much, this was exactly what I was looking for. I suppose saying please, pretty please, pretty please with a cherry on top, won't give me an editable path for the foreseeable future?

Anyhow, I see I can add the borders and titles I want by hand through AM:standards -> drawing sheets. While it is a bit of a chore to set it up, at least this is something I can set up once and distribute to all my users with the in-house profile loader application. I have another question that is more or less an extension of the previous question: The default list of borders and headers seems to be set from a standards file (in our case ISO). Is it possible to duplicate or extend that file with some client specific options like borders, layers or colours?

Sincerely,

Remco

Hi Remco,

Do you meant customizing the default drop down list for "Paper Formats" and
"Title Block" in the "Drawing Borders with Title Block" dialog that is
launched by AMTITLE command?
If so you can try the following steps:

1) New a drawing with am_iso.dwt
2) Execute OPTIONS command, select "AM:Standards" tab and double-click on
"Drawing Sheet" node.
2) Click the "Additional..." button in the "Default Paper Format" group box
to add your own customized border drawings to the default list of available
ISO paper formats.
3) Get out of OPTIONS dialog and save the current drawing as a new template
for your future use.
4) New a drawing with the newly created template, execute AMTITLE command to
see the customized list of paper formats.

Hope this helps

This is precisely what I was looking for. It went wrong because I expected a more monolithic system, but there is a lot to say for a more template based system, since this offers much more flexibility.

Now all I have to do is make sure that people start up with the right template, but that is a piece of cake.

Thanks a lot!
