Autocad Mechanical 2011 problems after installing Update 1

After installing Update 1, few minutes after a drawing has been opened or created from scratch, the following problems arise:

- ESC key does not deselect anymore;

- Object move on other layer or layer group (AMLGMOVE, AMLAYMOVE) does not work anymore: after selecting the objects, pressing Enter terminates the command;

- A text string cannot be anymore edited by double clicking on it.

- AMDIMSTRETCH does not work anymore.

- An attribute can’t anymore be modified by double clicking on it. Now, to modify an attribute: select the attribute, right click|Modify Attribute, click on the attribute again, the dialog finally opens .

- AMNOTE does not work if I select an object. I have to start the arrow somewhere in the empty space and then move it to pick the object which I want to point to.

- AMHATCH with the pre-defined settings does not work anymore (clicking on the screen the command terminates).

- The Intersecting Centerlines command does not work anymore (clicking on the screen the command terminates).

- AMPOWEREDIT does not work.

I can confirm that this behavior depends on the installation of Update 1. Another AM2011 installation on a laptop (same OS, where Update 1 has not yet been installed) does not show these issues.

In addition to the previously mentioned new problems, I see that the following issues have not been fixed by Update 1:

- Continuous drawing regeneration while using a 3DConnexion device;

- Frequent exception errors while opening drawings done in previous releases;

Anyone else noticed this behavior?

A coworker and I have had the same problems.    We uninstalled the update.

Hi G. Barozzi,

can you check if your PICKFIRST value is set to 1?

does restarting the application or machine help?

do you remember what commands or features you use before you hit these problems?

if it is possible, can you attach a drawing that you are working on when you hit these problems?

thank you,

Eng Seng

I confirm that PICKFIRST=1.

Restarting the application or the machine make the problem restart from the beginning, that is: after few minutes all the problems are back again;

Before the issues arise, only ordinary commands are used: line, rectangle, dimension, text... From what I have seen, the problems are not command-specific.

As I said in my post, there is no particular drawing showing this problem: these issues pop up either in old drawings and even in the simplest drawing you may arrange from scratch. It seems like there is a timer or a mouse click counter triggering this behavior.

However, I enclose a sample drawing (test.dwg): after few mouse clicks, if I try to use AMLAYMOVE on the rectangle, the command terminates, sometime with an Invalid Input message on the command line or no message at all.

Thank you

.

Hi G. Barozzi,

thanks for providing the drawing, we will take a look.

have you also installed Autodesk Inventor 2011 Service Pack 1?

if yes, which one did you install first? AutoCAD Mechanical 2011 Update 1 or Autodesk Inventor 2011 Service Pack 1?

can you also help to chcek if the same problem happens in the bundled AutoCAD 2011?

thank you,

Eng Seng

1. I installed Service Pack 1 for Inventor 2011 before installing Update 1 for Autocad Mechanical 2011. The installation of Service Pack 1 did not modify the behavior of Autocad Mechanical 2011.

2. In the bundled Autocad Mechanical 2011 (before Update 1), as I said in my first post, the first group of problems is not present. The other two issues (continuous regeneration and exception errors) were already present.

Thank you.

Hi,

I mean the bundled AutoCAD 2011, not AutoCAD Mechanical 2011.

I am sorry that we need your help to provide these information because we have tried on several machines on our end and we did not see the problem you mentioned.

thank you for your patience once again.

regards,

Eng Seng

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I have now played in Autocad 2011 with the drawing I have submitted but I could not reproduce until now the issues I listed.

In addition, I have not yet get exception errors by opening in Autocad the files that give the error if I open them in Autocad Mechanical.

Thank you.

Hi G. Barozzi,

do you have other Autodesk products installed in the same machine?

and how about previous releases of Inventor or AutoCAD Mechanical installed side by side?

regards,
Eng Seng

This is a new workstation: therefore, there are Autodesk 2011 products only:

Inventor Professional 2011 (SP1);

Autocad Mechanical 2011 (Update1);

Autodesk Algor Simulation 2011 (SP1);

Autodesk Design Review 2011.

Thank you

Hi G.,

I had some issues with my Mechanical as well.

Uninstalling the Update 1 solved the issues.

Thx

Ben

Thank you for the suggestion.

If no valid solution will be suggested by Autodesk, I will be forced to uninstall SP1, too.

Autocad Mechanical 2011 after the installation of SP1 is completely unusable.

We also have problems with SP1.

Unstalling is the best 😞 solution.

We are experiencing the same problems with this update.  We have one user whose delete key does not work when many items are selected.

Hi G. Barozzi,

I am sorry; I was out of office last week.

regarding this issue, we are currently trying hard to have a reproducible case.

In the meantime, you could uninstall Update 1 first.

Sorry again for the inconvenience caused.

We have 4 users that installed the update.   Of the 4 users, 3 of them experienced these problems.    The 3 users that were having the problem uninstalled the update.

We have 2 stations with AutoCAD Mecahnical 2011 and Inventor 2011.

After update 1 for AM 2011 i have the same problems.

Esc does not work selection-deselection does not work match prop does not work.

when items are highlighted with grips used in a command it does not work because there are no selected items?

When i start AM again for a short time it does work but after some time the i have to restart again because the glitch reappears.

Thanks to annyone who can solve this issue.

Frank
