3dclip problems

i'm having a slight problem with the cutting plane guidelines not showing up. i have to basically guess where they are and move the icon until i see portions of the objects being clipped in the viewport. front and back are behaving like this. is there a variable that controls their appearance or am i overlooking something?

I am having the same problems... Then everything in the preview window goes completely away except for the blocks. I am using AutoCAD 2012.

Figured it out. Change your Visual Style to some sort of 3D shading mode and the lines will reappear.
