xrefs not binding

hi all
I am trying to bind an xref of a drawing i made a copy of. whenever i do a bind --> bind, the error message comes up" at least one or more xrefs failed to bind for some unknown reason." that's fine. so I like to make a copy of drawings and add my initials to the name of my copy, that way i can point to that file and say, this is my work. i made my copy tried it again, and the same error message comes up.

any one know why that is happening? is there a lock on the drawing i'm xrefing in?

The error message can be caused by anonymous blocks, proxy objects or when
there are problems inside the drawing.
Thus you should make sure to not have anonymous blocks in the drawing and
the needed Object Enabler installed in case the drawing contains proxy
objects. In addition audit/wblock the drawing to eliminate possible internal
errors.

The problem could also be that some of your x-ref's are 'nested' into other xrefs within your drawing.

It is not possible to bind nested xref's into a drawing, unless you unload and thus reload each xref separately; so that nesting no longer occurs

It could be something else, but that's the first thing I thought of too.
For that reason, we always use Overlay instead of Attach with xrefs.

binding xrefs is our typical method for archiving drawings and nested xrefs are a common side effect to working large products. its incredibly unfortunate since this also renders etransmit ineffective. i would look forward to this function added in the next acad iteration.

eTransmit has been around in Autocad since version 14 / 2000. unless you have a version earlier than either of those 2, there is no reason to look forward to using this function.
if you don't have eTransmit, you could always use PackNGo
