Xref Attach with Geographic Location

When I attach an xref with an insertion point of 0,0 it comes in perfectly aligned with my base drawing, but if I tell it to use the Geographic location information instead it comes in shifted ten meters from where it should be, which makes the geographic information pretty useless in my opinion.

There's something going on here that I don't quite understand; does anyone have an explanation of why my data would be shifted like this. BTW, both drawings are identical as far as their units settings and assigned coordinate systems, and this is happening in Map2010.

The geographic location is an estimate of the location and not very
accurate. The idea behind is was to give standard AutoCAD users a GEO
location to place their objects at.

Well okay, at least I now know why it's there and not to use it. Seems a bit dangerous to be bringing in data "close" to where it should be but not necessarily in place. Thanks Murph, as usual you are a wealth of knowledge.

is this statment still true

"The geographic location is an estimate of the location and not very
accurate"

I am shocked if it is. I would assume that the purpose is so that Map or Civil can pull information or convert from different drawing zones.

anyway I was doing a search to see if anyone encountered an error in 2015.

Although both my base drawing and my xref dtrawing has a zone set the "locate using Geographic data" is greyed out.

I have also tried using "mapcassign" to assign the coordinate zone.
