Viewshed/Line of Sight Possible??

Hi All,
I am normally a user of ESRI ArcGIS where you can run Viewshed analysis, to analyse what can eb seen froma particular place.

I am hoping that this is possible in Map3D - and that the line of sight or viewshed can be done in 3D.

To give an example -

On a hill what can be seen from a specific location - and have structures that restrict this.

if this possible - thanks in advance

Hi there,

Check out RDV - Rapid Design Visualization.

It has a whole bunch of tools to give you the same type of GIS visual
analysis that you can get from the ESRI products.

We have dedicated versions for Civil 3D, Map 3D, and Land Desktop which
support the functionality you are looking for.

You can download a fully functional, time-unlimited non-commercial
evaluation version free from the website:

Natan,

Can you give examples (I don't see any on your website) of the viewshed analysis abilities of RDV? In particular, how does it handle multi-point viewshed analysis? Can it output viewshed polygons (and in the event of multi-point visibility, viewshed polygons specifying the number of points that the polygon is visible from?)?

Thanks,

Andrew Schroeder

I also downloaded the RDV System for my Map 3D and all though i like the extras for the visualisation cannot find the analysis section?

Does it exist?

Or do you have to buy the full version?

Anyone else know how the Line of Sight or Viewshed can be done within Map3D???

Hi Group,

Sorry for the misunderstanding. We will have some viewshed analysis
functionality posted in the near future. We have it already finished
in-house and an older shipping version for Land Desktop is available. The
Map3D version will be available in second half of Ocotober, but we will work
right now to try and post some examples of the output already in the next
few days on our site.

Yours,
Natan

The above is a link to an example we just put on our site which should give
you a good idea of how our solution works.

It shows a multipoint viewshed analysis for 3 buildings built into the
terrain. There are separate layers which can be turned on and off showing
the results for visibility analyses from all 3 points or combinations of the
3.

As posted in another message on this thread, the functionality for creation
of this type of example will be available shortly.

Anyone who would like more information at the moment is invited to contact
me directly on the matter.

Hi All,

I found this thread have been posted for over 7 years. Is there a feature can cater the viewshed/ line of sight application? 🙂

Eric
